We have been anxiously waiting to hear how our 10th standard boys did in their board exams this year (GCSE equivalent). The results came out on Monday and I am extremely proud to share with you that three of our boys have passed. These results shape what steps they will take next, whether they will continue in their education, take on apprenticeships or enroll onto a diploma course. Whichever path the boys choose the Big Hug Foundation will continue to:
- Give them the opportunity to fulfill their potential and
- Support them with their aspirations and goals

At the end of the financial year we calculated that 99.1% of all donations go directly to the street children we support in India. The charity is managed by dedicated volunteers who strive to keep our admin costs to a minimum. We ensure that your hard earned money is being spent on those who need it most.

CHILDREN'S HOME UPDATE
The children have been really busy over the last month studying for their end of year exams. We thought this would be a difficult task at the start of the summer (March) as the state of Tamil Nadu was under an acute power shortage, which meant there were up to 9 hours of power cuts every day. Initially, the children were unable to study in the evenings but thanks to a group of very generous donors in Coimbatore the home was equipped with 4 emergency lights. The donors prompt response to the situation really made a massive difference. Thank you for your support.

INDIA TRIP 2012
Last month I visited India to work on the project and spend time with the children; they have all grown so much and are as happy as ever! As I was seeing the children after a year I couldn’t believe the changes in their behavior, they have all become more confident, jovial children.
None of the children now suffer from skin allergies as they did at the previous home as they are now in a safer, more hygienic environment, away from the dangerous rodents and diseases at their old home.
We had lots of generous donors who sent clothes for the children, sponsored delicious meals and organised a fun day trip!!

Back to school and a crazy supporter…
After the move the children under the age of 11 have had to change schools. The new school is a 30 second walk from the home so they will be lucky enough to enjoy a bit of a lie in! They're first day back after summer was 16th June and from what I hear they all had an enjoyable day!
One of our crazy, brave supporters waxed his back to raise money for the children! He raised an incredible £1027, which will continue to support the rent and bills at the home. Thank you to all his sponsors for their generous donations.

May's rent and expenses have been paid successfully.
A mattress and pillow for each child was delivered to The Home this month. Each child now has their own personal space and a comfortable bed! The children were so happy and couldn't stop smiling; this is the first time the children will be sleeping in a proper bed after many years of sleeping on just a straw mat. All the children passed their end of year exams and will be moving onto the next grade in June!! Well done to the kids!!!
Many thanks to Medallion Europe LTD for supplying us with complimentary printing! Hopefully the booklets we have had printed will help raise awareness of the project.(Posted on 23rd May 2011)
